Vitor Belfort is not impressed with Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva after their TUF: Brazil brawl on Sunday night.
The former UFC middleweight and light-heavyweight title challenger took to Facebook on Monday to express his embarrassment regarding the two coaches' public display.
"The brawl between Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen at TUF Brazil embarrassed me. First because MMA is not violence, is a fight between two guys that are prepared for it and inside an Octagon. That's what I do. I don't brawl, I fight. Second, there's no room for this kind of behavior in a sport like MMA in a time that the sport has its rules inside and outside the Octagon."
Having coached opposite Silva in the inaugural season of TUF: Brazil, Belfort has been in this sort of position before, but was surprised that the situation escalated to that level and believes it is a terrible way to represent the sport.
"Third and most importantly, MMA can't influence this behavior that ends in assault as if it were the appropriate model of behavior. Millions of young kids suffer with violence inside and outside their schools, and the television can't be driving this behavior, so the athletes need to represent control no matter what."
Silva and Sonnen are both the coaches of the third season of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 3, which features both middleweights and heavyweights. During the airing of the sixth episode of the season, the two coaches got into a confrontation ahead of the weigh-ins, which resulted in a brawl as both teams got involved to separate them.
