It took nine fights to get there, but we finally have our first upset of the tournament. And it's an interesting upset indeed. #5 seed Demetrious Johnson defeated #4 Chuck Liddell in the closest fight of the tournament so far, 58-42. Kind of amazing that The Iceman won't make it out of the opening round, but here we are. Johnson has the unenviable draw of facing Anderson Silva next round. It's going to take quite a lot to score the upset again.
Today? Well, today is a match up that could get real interesting. #2 seed Bas Rutten takes on #7 Conor McGregor. Now, your average 2 vs 7 match up doesn't hold much intrigue. But here you've got the fact that Bas is a fighter who many fans have heard of more than they have actually seen, and that McGregor is red hot right now with a very vocal fanbase. Add those together, and I have to say that the Irishman is a live dog here. Let's see how it plays out.
