Alexander Gustafsson prefers Jon Jones beats Daniel Cormier because 'I want to fight him'

January 2015 is going to be a massive month for the top of the light heavyweight division, as Jon Jones faces Daniel Cormier in a huge championship showdown on the 3rd, with Alexander Gustafsson and Anthony Johnson squaring off in Sweden three weeks later. Gustafsson has a close decision loss to Jones he wants to avenge, and while a win for him puts him in line to fight the Jones/Cormier winner, he has his sights set on rematching the current champion: (via MMA Fighting)

"Me personally, I want Jones to win, because I want to fight him," Gustafsson told Ariel Helwani on Monday's edition of The MMA Hour. "If I want to take the belt from anyone, it would be Jones. Not DC."

Jones was supposed to fight Gustafsson at UFC 178 before a knee injury forced Gustafsson out, which led to the beginning of the Jones vs. Cormier hype. Gustafsson was initially reluctant to accept another fight, but opted to do so to solidify his position as the #1 contender.

As far as his thoughts on potentially fighting Cormier, he had this to say:

"Well, I think 'DC' is a great athlete and a great person, so, like I said, it would be great to see him win because it would mix things up," Gustafsson said. "He's a great fighter."

This de facto 4 man tournament of Jones, Cormier, Gustafsson, and Johnson all begins on January 3rd in Las Vegas.
