Jon Fitch has a lot on his plate this weekend when he meets Rousimar Palhares for the World Series of Fighting welterweight title at WSOF 16 in Sacramento. Regardless of the outcome though, Fitch wants fights. And in a conversation with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, he said that he could possibly be able to go over to Asia to fight the man that could be the best welterweight in the world outside the UFC - Ben Askren (via MMA Fighting):
"I have it in my contract that I may be able to go over there. If it's not going to impede on a fight that they have planned for me, and it's not a competitive, local US show, then I could possibly be able to fight," Fitch said.
...
"If they're not planning on having me fight again in July, I might go out in March and try to fight somewhere," Fitch said. "We haven't done that yet, but we did a grappling match with [Paulo] Miayo. There's some leeway in there."
He wanted to be clear that he wasn't trying to talk trash towards Askren though:
"Fights in general get me excited," Fitch said. "I like staying active. Any time I get to test my abilities, I think at this point in my career, i fought so many people that I feel like I'm the best. I'm not looking down on anybody but I feel like they're all the same fight. "
Fitch (26-6-1, 1 NC, 2-1 WSOF) hasn't competed since July when he beat Dennis Hallman in a middleweight bout. Askren (14-0), the One FC welterweight champion, hasn't directly responded on Twitter but he did retweet someone mentioning the possible bout.
