Pride 33 was a special event in that the promotion, for one night only, ventured across the globe to put on the show in Las Vegas, instead of its Japanese home base. The card was filled with fascinating match-ups that produced historic results, and was sadly their penultimate event. Just a month later, news broke that ZUFFA had purchased the promotion, and the rest, as they say, is history.
So why am I giving you a history lesson you most likely don't need? Well, that's because it's time for another episode of Brawls & Beer with Fight Network's Robin Black, and this week, we've selected a classic match from the Pride 33 card. Nick Diaz vs. Takanori Gomi was one of those fights that sticks with you. Whether you've seen it one time or 100, you remember it for all its glory. When Robin and I put out the call for suggestions on Twitter, this was the fight most requested, so it's the one we chose to break down.
In this second episode, we actually get a little beer chat in, discuss some of the fight's finer points, why it was so special, and even touch down on how the fight with Anderson Silva might pan out, if and when it happens next year. This week's episode times in at a little under 19 minutes. Enjoy!
