Erick Silva to face Dong Hyun Kim at UFC Fight Night on October 9 according to coach

Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE

Erick Silva's coach says that the UFC welterweight will return to the Octagon on October 9 to face Dong Hyun Kim.

One of the UFC's top prospects at 170 pounds, Silva rebounded from a highly entertaining loss to Jon Fitch last October to submit Jason High a little over one minute into the first round of UFC on Fuel TV 10. In Kim, Silva faces a very stiff challenge.

Kim has gone 8-2 (1 NC) in the UFC with one of the losses coming via a somewhat fluke rib injury under a minute into his bout with Demian Maia last July. He is now on a two fight win streak, beating Paulo Thiago and Siyar Bahadurzada.

Silva's coach, Josuel Distak, confirmed the bout with MMA Fighting:

"Erick Silva will fight again in October, against that guy that defeated Paulo Thiago," Distak told MMAFighting.com on Wednesday. "It’s a tough fight, (Kim) will try to do what (Jon) Fitch did to Erick, but Erick is way better now. He had weight issues before that fight, but he no longer has that problem."

...

"We are going for the knockout," Josuel added. "Erick needs to avoid the takedowns and keep the fight standing. If he goes to the ground, we are trained too."
