Melvin Guillard just knocked out the TUF 6 winner, and now he's set to fight the TUF 9 lightweight winner. Guillard will travel to Manchester, England to take on Ross Pearson in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night: Bisping vs. Munoz. UFC Tonight correspondent and MMA Fighting's own Ariel Helwani reported the news on last night's Fuel TV broadcast:
Guillard (31-12-2, 1 NC) put Mac Danzig to sleep at UFC on Fox 8, giving him just his 2nd win in 6 fights but enough to assure that he'll be staying in the UFC a little bit longer. "The Young Assassin" has been with the UFC since 2005 and this is possibly his last chance to prove he belongs in the title picture.
Pearson (15-6) had shown fluid and crisp striking throughout his UFC run, but hadn't scored any knockout wins. Since returning to lightweight, Pearson has stopped George Sotiropoulos and Ryan Couture. With a 7-3 UFC record and 6-2 at 155 lbs, it's very possible that a win over Guillard will justify a top 10 matchup in his future.
UFC Fight Night: Bisping vs. Munoz will air live on Fox Sports 2 and NOT Fox Sports 1. Fuel TV will become Fox Sports 2 on August 17th, the same day that the Speed channel will turn into Fox Sports 1.
