Sometimes when you're a bonafide master of something, other things tend to get overlooked. When UFC light heavyweight Vinny Magalhaes faced off against Aussie BJJ blackbelt Anthony Perosh, I expected the battle to be taken to the ground where the two jiu jitsu aces could duke it out in a grappling version of Battle Royale. You can imagine my surprise and dismay when 14 seconds after the first round started, the fight was over, and Magalhaes was being helped up off the canvas.
As a diehard Vinny fan and friend, I was heartbroken. Perosh, being the slick veteran that he is, pulled a fast one, and trained extensively on his boxing, and went in there with deadly intent. To the victor go the spoils, and I applaud Anthony on a well deserved victory.
According to the Fuel post fight show, it was revealed that Vinny left his gloves inside the octagon after the fight. I'm not sure if this was an accidental oversight or something more symbolic. He did mention that if he lost to The Hippo, he deserved to be cut. In any event, no matter where Magalhaes ends up, whether it still be with the UFC or in another promotion, I will remain a steadfast fan, and will always watch his fights.
