The first round didn't go according to plan for John Lineker, but he managed to pick up a victory either way. Opponent Jose Maria Tome had him hurt in the first and was ahead in the fight, but it looked like he hurt his leg while throwing a kick early in the second round. Lineker saw blood and he finished the fight with a barrage of ground and pound. The finish came at 1:03 of round two.
Tome was moving around on the outside early, trying to stay away from Lineker's power. He did taste it a couple of times early though. Tome landed a huge spinning backfist that rocked Lineker, then a right that did it again. He looked for a standing guillotine, but thought better of it and cracked him with a left instead. Tome caught a kick but Lineker took his back for a little while. Lineker recovered and Tome went back to his outside game.
The second started off with the typical flyweight speed and a good scramble on the ground. Tome appeared to hurt his leg when he threw a kick and fell down, and was promptly pounded out by Lineker. Weird ending to a good fight.
Lineker missed weight for the bout, the second time he has done that in four UFC bouts. He has won three fights in a row and might be in line for a title shot, but the weight issues are going to be a concern.
