It appears that Kelvin Gastelum likes being a welterweight. The TUF 17 winner at middleweight dropped to 170 for the first time in the UFC, and it took him less than half a round to secure his second win in the organization. Gastelum engaged heavy-handed Brian Melancon standing, dropped him with a nice shot, and choked him out.
Melancon looked to box early, but Gastelum was content to look for takedowns. He got Melancon down once briefly but the ex-Strikeforce fighter popped right up. Gastelum waded into the pocket and threw down, landing a six-punch combination that finished with a beautiful uppercut that dropped Melancon. Instead of attacking with punches, the TUF winner jumped on Melancon's back. It took him no time at all to lock up a choke, and the fight was over just like that.
Melancon dropped to 1-1 in the UFC, while Gastelum moved to 2-0 as mentioned above.
