The injury bug is in full swing right now. Fighters are dropping like flies, and while most have been replacable, this time it's cost fans a fight. UFC Tonight reported Tuesday, via Twitter, that recent signee, Brian Houston has been pulled from his UFC 164 bout with Yoel Romero. No replacement will be made.
Of course Houston wasn't even originally supposed to be in this fight. It was initially announced as Yoel Romero vs. Derek Brunson until Brunson withdrew due to injury. This latest cancellation is an especially heavy blow for Romero as he can't afford to sit on the shelf at this point in his career. If he wants to make a run in the middleweight division every fight is crucial.
Hopefully they'll get Romero on the next card with an opening, possibly the October 26th card in Manchester which has yet to fill up. For Houston his future is somewhat up in the air. Lately the UFC has made a habit of cutting short notice fill-ins who get injured before their first appearance. Houston is a pretty green fighter to be making his UFC debut, so they may take this opportunity to send him back to the regional circuit for some seasoning. UFC 164 takes place on August 31 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It will be headlined by Benson Henderson defending his lightweight title against Anthony Pettis.
