While the weekend was filled with news of War Machine's poorly conceived rape tweets, another Mayhem arrest, Lew Polley missing weight by 26 lbs, and the UFC's signing of Darrell Montague, there was another fight announced that's been buried in other coverage. TUF Brazil winner Rony Jason has agreed to fight Jeremy Stephens in a featherweight contest at a UFC Fight Night event in Brazil on October 9th. MMA Weekly first reported the bout.
Stephens (21-9) ended his 3 fight losing streak and avoided a certain UFC exile with a dominant win over Estevan Payan. "Lil' Heathen" dropped to featherweight after a KO loss to Yves Edwards at UFC on Fox 5, his first ever KO defeat.
Jason (13-3) won TUF Brazil's featherweight tournament by defeating Godofredo Pepey by unanimous decision. He followed that up with a TKO of Sam Sicilia and a quick submission of Mike Wilkinson. All of his UFC fights have been in Brazil.
This October 9th card does not have a venue or city, but Erick Silva/Dong Hyun Kim and Thiago Silva/Matt Hamill have also been targeted for this date.
