The UFC's flyweight division got a massive boost when Darrell Montague signed with the promotion. Now the 25-year-old has a fight lined up against recent title challenger John Dodson at UFC 166 in Houston. This announcement was made by the UFC earlier today:
Montague (13-2) was considered to be the best flyweight not in the UFC, and now he joins this growing division riding a 4 fight win streak and only one loss at 125 lbs (to Ian McCall in Tachi Palace Fights). "The Mongoose" won the TFP flyweight title by dominating Ulysses Gomez before the aforementioned McCall defeat. Needless to say he is a welcome addition to the UFC's roster.
Dodson (14-6) is possibly the heaviest puncher in the division, as evidenced by his TKO win over Jussier Formiga and two knockdowns of Demetrious Johnson in their title fight. Unfortunately for him, he was unable to finish Mighty Mouse and lost a close unanimous decision.
UFC 166 is turning out to be a monster card, with a main event of Cain Velasquez/Junior dos Santos, a co-main between Roy Nelson and Daniel Cormier, plus Luke Rockhold/Tim Boetsch, Nate Marquardt/Hector Lombard, Diego Sanchez/Gilbert Melendez, and much more. Cross your fingers that the injuries are kept to a minimum, as we could be looking at special night of fights in Houston, TX come October 19th.
