Thiago Alves injured, Mike Pyle now fights Matt Brown at UFC on Fox Sports 1 in Boston

USA TODAY Sports

It's no secret that Thiago Alves has had serious injury problems in recent years, and the former top contender at 170 lbs is hurt yet again. The Brazilian was due to face Matt Brown at UFC on Fox Sports 1 in Boston on August 17th, but instead Mike Pyle will face "The Immortal" on the night's main card:

"Quicksand" Pyle (25-8-1) has won his last 4 fights, including a split decision win over Rick Story at UFC 160 and KOs/TKOs over Ricardo Funch, Josh Neer, and James Head. His impressive winning streak has been overshadowed by the resurgence of Matt Brown, who has gone 5-0 since a 1-4 run from 2010 to 2011. Brown won FOTN honors in his knockout win over Jordan Mein at UFC on Fox 7 in San Jose, which was amazingly his first ever post-fight bonus.

While the Alves injury news is unfortunate, but Pyle/Brown is a great alternative and the winner could very well see himself getting a top 10 opponent in the near future.

UFC on FS1 1 is headlined by Mauricio Rua and Chael Sonnen and co-headlined by Alistair Overeem and Travis Browne.
