Phil Davis says he plans to submit Lyoto Machida at UFC 163

UFC light heavyweight contender Phil Davis has a tough task ahead of him at UFC 163 in Rio de Janeiro. Davis is in the co-main event spot against former champion Lyoto Machida, and unsurprisingly he's the underdog. In a pre-fight interview with UFC.com, "Mr. Wonderful talked about his opponent and what he plans to do to Machida next month. The following quote was transcribed by MMA Mania's Jesse Holland:

"What makes me so confident in this run for the title? I know what I'm willing to do to make it happen. Machida was next in line for a title shot. Winning against him will put me up in the contender race. What makes Lyoto Machida so unique is that he is quite effective at catching people rushing in. Anyone who comes straight at him, he usually punches. I'm gonna stick to my bread and butter. If his tricks are not working that night, it will be a rough night. My plan is to go back to Rio and get another submission win and be able to build my legacy that way."

Davis has submitted Tim Boetsch, Wagner Prado, Alexander Gustafsson, and some guy in a Sprite commercial. It would be a highly impressive feat for him to pull it off against Machida, who has been submitted just once (against Jon Jones), although that came after he was badly hurt from a knockdown moments before Jones choked him unconscious.
