Former UFC welterweight Anthony Johnson is once again headlining a World Series of Fighting card in New Jersey. "Rumble" will face Mike Kyle in a light heavyweight showdown at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey on September 14th. WSOF officials finalized the fight in a press release earlier today.
Johnson (15-4) made his heavyweight debut at WSOF 3 against Andrei Arlovski, winning by unanimous decision after nearly knocking out Arlovski in a 1st round that literally lasted almost 10 seconds longer than it should have. Rumble's other WSOF fight came at 205 lbs in a 1st round KO win over D.J. Linderman. Johnson has been out of the UFC for over a year and it looks like LHW might be his long-term home.
Kyle (20-9-1) is a 12 year veteran of the sport who is coming off a KO win over Travis Wiuff in May. The 32-year-old implied that he was going to retire following a submission loss to Gegard Mousasi in Strikeforce this past January, but he's obviously still competing and makes his WSOF debut this fall.
WSOF 5 tickets go on sale this Friday. The NBC Sports televised main card airs live at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT, with prelims on WSOF.com at 6:30 PM ET/3:30 PM PT. Please note that September 14th date, as it's the same day as Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Canelo Alvarez, which was booked after WSOF 5 had already been confirmed for 9/14.
