Remember Jon Fitch? He used to be a UFC welterweight contender, but then he failed to win 3 of his final 4 fights and the UFC cut him. The reason for the shock release? He's "very f**king expensive" according to Dana White. Now he's with World Series of Fighting, and he gets to rematch Josh Burkman in the main event of WSOF 3 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fitch finished Burkman by rear naked choke at UFC Fight Night 4 back in 2006. Now he returns to the exact same venue where he first fought Burkman, but under the WSOF banner.
Surinamese kickboxer Tyrone Spong was due to co-headline this show, but Visa issues forced him off the card. Instead, lightweights Tyson Steele and Steve Carl will take the co-main event spotlight.
The card is scheduled for Friday, June 14th at 11 PM ET on NBC Sports Network. Coincidentally, June 14th is a shade over 6 years since Fitch's last finish, a win over Roan Carneiro on June 12th, 2007.
Here's what WSOF 3 looks like so far:
Jon Fitch vs. Josh Burkman
Steve Carl vs. Tyson Steele
Jacob Volkmann vs. Lyle Beerbohm
Rolles Gracie vs. Dave Huckaba
Brian Cobb vs Justin Gaethje
John Gunderson vs. Dan Lauzon
Kendrick Miree vs. Krasimir Mladenov
