UFC 160 results recap: Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio Silva

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

In the main event of UFC 160, Cain Velasquez (12-1, 10-1 UFC) made his first successful UFC heavyweight title defense by finishing Antonio Silva (18-5, 2-2 UFC) in the first round of their rematch. Silva got off to a good start by stuffing a couple of Velasquez takedown attempts, but he got wrecked by a big right that sent him to the canvas. Cain followed up with a plethora of punches that forced the referee to wave off the fight at the 81-second mark of the first.

Silva protested the late stoppage initially, then stated in the post-fight press conference that he felt a lot of the shots on the ground were to the back of the head and should have been ruled illegal. It doesn't appear anything will come of his protests though.

What was the high point of the fight?

The shot that dropped Silva. Cain actually clipped him lightly with the left before imploding his chin with the right.

Where do they go from here?

Velasquez will make his next title defense against Junior dos Santos in the third meeting between the two. Each men has taken one bout so far and they're clearly the top two heavyweights in the company. The only real question is when and where the bout will take place.

Silva goes back into the pack at heavyweight and it's kind of unclear where he goes from here. There are plenty of good fights for him though, so he's not going to have a problem getting a competitive matchup. I'd really like to see him face off with Stefan Struve next.

Watch now, later, or never?

Now. It was over in a flash and it's another good example of what Cain can do with his hands.
