The UFC has lost its main event for their June 15th PPV in Winnipeg. Tatame reports that interim bantamweight champion Renan Barao is out of his UFC 161 title defense against Eddie Wineland due to a right foot injury. Barao recently defended his interim belt against Michael McDonald at UFC on Fuel 7 in London.
Unless the UFC is interested in an absurd "interim interim" title fight, this essentially kills any chance of a title fight headlining the card. The other two fights on this event that could conceivably be the new main event are Mauricio Rua vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Rashad Evans vs. Dan Henderson.
This is yet another blow to the UFC's bantamweight division, which has already seen its "full" champion Dominick Cruz lose all of 2012 and likely all of 2013 with knee problems.
No word yet on whether or not there will be a replacement for Barao to fight Wineland.
