The push to get Mark Hunt into a UFC 160 bout with Junior dos Santos won't be happening any longer. Instead, according to UFC president Dana White, the Alistair Overeem vs. JDS bout will be moved to the summer and Dos Santos will not compete on the Memorial Day weekend card. Here's what White tweeted in response to a Hunt fan:
Overeem also tweeted about the nature of his injury this morning:
I found it quite odd that Hunt said he was injury-free and ready to fight anyway, since that's not what he was saying a couple of days ago:
I know that the bout would have been over two months away and it's tough to speculate without knowing what the injury was, but that might have been something that was taken into account in the process. And he was just manning up and saying what he had to in order to get the fight, which I respect. I would have liked to see Hunt get in there with Dos Santos too, but I also understand that the UFC doesn't want to put one of their biggest-drawing fights of the year in any sort of jeopardy by making one of the guys fight first.
Anyway, we'll get to see JDS vs. Reem in the summer if everything goes smoothly with Overeem's recovery, and Hunt will get to rest for a bit and heal up.
