The bantamweight division is aching for someone to break through into title contention, and a UFC 159 fight might just provide that potential challenger. Newark will play host a battle of unbeaten 135-pound fighters when Mexican prodigy Erik Perez faces off with grinder Johnny Bedford. Bedford confirmed the fight himself via twitter:
Perez (13-4) has made quite an impression in the UFC thus far, going 3-0 with three first-round finishes and setting a record for the quickest finish in bantamweight history when he knocked out Ken Stone in seventeen seconds at UFC 150. Bedford (19-9) has been no slouch himself though, picking up two wins and two finishes in his UFC career.
The bout is expected to take place on the preliminary card of the April 27th event in Newark. The headliner is a light heavyweight title fight between TUF 17 coaches Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen.
