Mike Goldberg said on the UFC 156 broadcast that 2013 would feature plenty of "superfights", and I think you're looking at one of them here. If you recall, Leonard Garcia and Cody McKenzie were due to face each other on the preliminary card of UFC 155 in December. McKenzie suffered an injury, and the dream matchup fans around the world had been clamoring for had tragically dissolved. Good news MMA fans, the fight is back on for UFC 159. Garcia confirmed this fight on Twitter:
Garcia (15-10) has lost 4 straight fights, including a split decision loss to McKenzie's replacement Max Holloway at UFC 155. His civilization-ending power and high volume of punches over the course of 15 minutes has been consistently touted by analyst Joe Rogan. Honestly, it's hard to deny that it isn't warranted, just ask the air around Garcia about his striking abilities.
McKenzie (13-3) was TKOed by Chad Mendes via body punch at UFC 148, dropping his UFC record to 2-3. He's noted for his guillotine choke, dubbed the "McKenzietine". Literally all but two of his wins have been by the guillotine. It's a tad surprising that no one has called him the male Ronda Rousey, but with guillotines instead of armbars.
This fight will likely be on the evening's preliminary card.
