Sad news for fight fans.

Talented UFC Heavyweight Shane del Rosario died last night in a California Hospital ten days after being taken off life support following a heart attack he suffered on November 28.

MMA Mania has the details:

Shane del Rosario died late last night (Dec. 8, 2013) at Hoag Memorial Presbyterian Hospital in Newport Beach, Calif., following complications from cardiac arrest suffered in his home on Tuesday morning (Nov. 26, 2013).

Del Rosario was discovered by his roommate, UFC flyweight Ian McCall, and listed in critical condition after being resuscitated in the emergency room. While the former Strikeforce title contender showed initial signs of improvement, his health took a turn for the worse on Thursday (Nov. 28, 2013) after "No Limits" displayed no sign of brain activity.

Dave Meltzer had more about del Rosario's heart attack in the Wrestling Observer (subscription required):

The doctors believed Del Rosario may have suffered from a rare condition called Long QT Syndrome. It's a genetic abnormality that can cause a sudden life threatening heart rhythm abnormality and can result in instant death. The rare condition strikes healthy young people and often there is no sign of it until it strikes.

It can be genetic, or it can come from certain medications or medical conditions.

Del Rosario was 11-2 as a professional, his only losses coming in the UFC. He was undefeated until being rear-ended by a drunk driver in 2011. He had been booked to fight Guto Inocente at UFC 168 but had withdrawn due to a knee injury.

Bloody Elbow would like to extend our sincere condolences to del Rosario's friends and loved ones.
