Last night (well ... yesterday morning if you're in Australia) was probably the easiest night of post-fight bonus selections ever handed out by the UFC. The co-main event and main event stole the show and easily merited $50,000 extra for the following fighters:
- Fight of the Night: Mark Hunt vs. Antonio Silva
- Knockout of the Night: Mauricio Rua def. James Te Huna by KO (punch) at 1:03 of round 1.
- Submission of the Night: No one won by submission
The only other serious candidate for FOTN was Takeya Mizugaki vs. Nam Phan, but their hopes went out the door by round 4 of the Hunt/Bigfoot war.
Here are some facts behind the two bonuses handed out:
- This is Mark Hunt's 3rd consecutive fight night bonus. He won KOTN against Stefan Struve, FOTN in his losing effort against Junior dos Santos, and of course FOTN against Bigfoot. He also previously took home a KOTN bonus for his walkoff win over Chris Tuchscherer.
- Bigfoot closes out 2013 with his 2nd career UFC post-event award. He won KOTN against Alistair Overeem at UFC 156 prior to last night's showing.
- Shogun clinched his 3rd KO bonus of his UFC career, with the others coming against Lyoto Machida and Chuck Liddell.
- Tough night for James Te Huna, who not only suffered the first knockout of his 10 year career, but he's on the wrong end of a post-fight bonus for the 2nd fight in a row. Glover Teixeira's guillotine choke win over him at UFC 160 netted him $50k.
