We don't know when it will happen or where it will take place, but we do know that Chris Weidman's second defense of his UFC middleweight title will come against Vitor Belfort.
Weidman's second round TKO win over Anderson Silva in the main event of Saturday's UFC 168 set up the fight against Belfort.
Belfort had an impressive run in 2013, going 3-0 with each of those victories coming by way of first round head kick knockout. Belfort picked up Knockout of the Night bonuses in all three of those wins as well, pocketing an extra $150,000 for his efforts. Belfort's overall record stands at 24-10.
Weidman moved his record to a perfect 11-0 with his second win over Silva. At the post-fight press conference Weidman offered his opinion on his as yet unscheduled title defense, "I think it's a great matchup. It's a totally different opponent than Anderson Silva so it's nice to move on, and I'm excited for the challenge."
The middleweight champion praised Belfort when asked what he thought the 36-year-old challenger would bring to the Octagon, "He's very explosive, strong and very experienced. He's good on the ground and good on his feet. He's going to be a great challenge for me."
Belfort was in attendance at UFC 168, and made a brief appearance at the post-fight press conference. Near the end of the press conference, UFC president Dana White afforded Belfort a few seconds of time to speak, "I want to thank Chris Weidman for accepting my challenge," Belfort said. "I just want to say that I am ready. I'm going back to the gym Monday, and I'm looking forward to my next challenge."
