Could Phil Davis be fighting Shogun Rua next?

Phil Davis is coming off arguably the biggest win of his career, but it's been over four months since that bout and the light heavyweight still remains unbooked. The college wrestling star defeated Lyoto Machida at UFC 163 to move his record to a stellar 12-1 (NC), and he might very well be facing off with another Brazilian next though - Mauricio Rua.

On UFC Tonight earlier this week, Ariel Helwani stated that he talked to Davis' coach Eric Del Fierro and asked him about a Davis vs. Shogun fight. He said that they'd love to get that fight, and it certainly makes sense.Davis currently sits as the number four contender at 205 in the official UFC rankings, while Rua is in the six spot. With pretty much every big name in the division either booked or hurt, it seems like a natural fit.

Rua (22-8) brought an end to a two-fight losing streak with a massive knockout victory over James Te Huna at UFC Fight Night 33 earlier this month. He has already fought a lot of the top guys, and Davis is one of the few outliers. But is the UFC willing to make the matchup? We'll have to wait and find out, but I hope so.
