Report: Rick Story to face off with Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 171

USA TODAY Sports

It appears that the UFC has added yet another welterweight fight to the UFC 171 card on March 15th in Dallas. The current top three bouts on the card are all at 170-pounds, and this most recent addition is pretty good as well. The news comes via NBC Sports Radio host Gator Choke. The UFC has not officially announced the bout as of yet.

Story (16-7) has alternated wins and losses in his last five bouts, but picked up his most significant win in a while with a unanimous decision over Brian Ebersole at UFC 167 last month. He is 9-5 in the UFC overall.

Gastelum (7-0) won The Ultimate Fighter 17 at middleweight by defeating Uriah Hall. He immediately dropped to 170 and picked up a submission victory over Brian Melancon at UFC Fight Night 27 in August. He was scheduled to face Court McGee at UFC on Fox 9 but was forced out with a torn PCL. It was reported on UFC Tonight that he has been cleared to compete now, and he initially wanted to fight Carlos Condit on this card. With Condit booked against Tyron Woodley, he apparently gets Story instead.

The bout will likely take place on the preliminary card of the event. The headliner will see Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler face off for the vacant UFC welterweight title.
