Report: John Lineker vs. Ali Bagautinov targeted for UFC 169

Joe Camporeale-US PRESSWIRE

The UFC is looking for title challengers in the Flyweight division after Demetrious Johnson destroyed Joseph Benavidez last Saturday, and the winner of this reported fight is probably next in line to face Mighty Mouse. According to Russian website MMABoxing, Ali Bagautinov and John Lineker will fight on the main card of UFC 169 on February 1st in Newark, New Jersey. The UFC has yet to confirm the bout, but if it's true it is just about a title eliminator and a great match-up in the division.

Lineker (23-6) is a ferocious striker with an emphasis on body shots, and has won his last 3 fights (vs. Phil Harris, Jose Maria Tome, and Azamat Gashimov) by TKO. The biggest problem Lineker faces is his ability to make weight. In 5 UFC fights he's missed weight 3 times, including the last two fights, and he's on the famed "Dolce Diet" for his next fight.

Bagautinov (12-2) came into the UFC as one of the best prospects out of Dagestan, and so far he's lived up to expectations. He KO'd Marcos Vinicius in Brazil and then followed that up with a decision win over top 10 ranked Tim Elliott at UFC 167.

UFC 169 is all about the lighter weight classes in the co-main and main event. Dominick Cruz unifies the bantamweight belt against interim champ Renan Barao, while in the co-main event Jose Aldo defends the featherweight title against Ricardo Lamas.
