Luke and I get pretty ambitious and discuss some of the issues raised in my last Bathrobe Review for UFC Fight for the Troops 3 including MMALogic's very interesting ideas in the comments.
Here's our agenda:
1) The UFC's goals -- global expansion and move away from PPV to TV rights
2) The snags - FS1 is a weak platform, TUF is beyond stale, bloated roster and no star-making apparatus
3) Two proposed solutions -- de facto divisional tournaments -- all LW shows for example (MMA Logic's idea)
4) A smaller UFC premier league, say 16 fighters per division per year fighting round robin style, at the end of the year 6 guys get cut and six guys move from the UFC minor leagues to the big time. (Kid Nate's idea)
NOTE: In the video I incorrectly assert that Dave Meltzer had projected this to be the UFC's best year ever on PPV. Meltzer actually projected this would be their biggest revenue year as a company which obviously includes the Fox and Globo TV rights deals as well as live gates and pay-per-view revenue. I regret the error.
