We have a late switch to the UFC 167 preliminary card with barely a week before the much anticipated PPV from Las Vegas. Sergio Pettis (9-0), younger brother of current lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, was supposed to make his debut against England's Vaughan Lee, but Lee pulled out and left Pettis needing a new opponent. A WEC veteran has stepped up and will return to the UFC to take on Pettis, as Will Campuzano confirmed he will face Sergio next week:
Campuzano (13-4) went 1-2 in the WEC, most notably winning a thriller against Coty Wheeler and losing via body shot TKO against Eddie Wineland. An 0-2 run in the UFC resulted in a pink slip for the 27-year-old, but he's since carved out success at flyweight. At 4-0, he's the reigning Legacy FC flyweight champion and also holds a KO win over Josh Sampo. Will's last fight, a split decision over Hideo Tokoro, took place at bantamweight in October so it's not too big of a surprise that he can take this fight on short notice. I expect him to drop to flyweight regardless of the outcome.
Pettis (9-0) has toggled between flyweight and bantamweight, and is one of the top prospects in either weight class. The 20-year-old has an even 3 wins by TKO/KO, 3 by submission, and 3 by decision. Pettis' last fight was a submission win over James Porter, contested at 135 lbs.
