It's probably safe to say that Olympic gold medalist and two-time world champion in freestyle wrestling, Jordan Burroughs was watching Saturday's Bellator fight card. At the very least, the man that goes by the nickname "All I See is Gold" watched the main event between Michael Chandler and Eddie Alvarez.
Shortly after that fight wrapped, and Alvarez had his hand raised in victory as the new Bellator lightweight champion, Burroughs, who was also a two-time NCAA champion in wrestling sent out the following tweet:
In 17 words, Burroughs crushed the dreams of the many fight fans that wanted to see one of the most accomplished American wrestlers ever take his talents into mixed martial arts.
Burroughs had toyed with the idea of moving to MMA in the past. In the days leading up to the 2012 Olympics, where he would go on to win a gold medal, Burroughs told Damon Martin:
I want to go two Olympic cycles, I feel like I have a lot of wrestling left in me, a lot of double legs left in me, so basically that's my focus right now win a couple world medals, win a couple gold medals in the Olympics, and make that transition into MMA.
Seeing the badly swollen and bloody faces of Alvarez and Chandler after 25 minutes of action seems to have changed Burroughs mind on that move.
