Former WEC Bantamweight champion and UFC fighter Miguel Torres now has a new home after his recent release from the UFC two weeks ago. Originally scheduled for a November TitanFC card, he's now the latest signing for World Series of Fighting. (Via MMA Fighting)
Ali Abdel-Aziz, the promotion's senior executive vice president, confirmed the news Sunday with MMAFighting.com, as well as Torres' manager Glenn Robinson of Authentic Sports Management.
Torres will fight on the promotion's debut card, scheduled for Nov. 3 at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. His opponent has yet to be signed.
Interestingly enough he's the only fighter below 155 I can recall being signed -- they don't even have any 145 or 135ers listed on their website -- so perhaps they will have bantamweight-to-heavyweight competitions instead of stopping at lightweight. Torres (40-5) is just 3-4 in his last 7 WEC and UFC fights but he's hardly a shot fighter. All of his losses have come to high-level talent but he's been more than capable of beating average talent like Antonio Banuelos so I expect him to still perform well against lower-level BWs. He now joins the likes of Roger Huerta, Jordan Radev, Thales Leites, Rolles and Igor Gracie, and Ronys Torres on the WSOF roster.
As for when they'll be on TV? You'll find out September 6th in their press conference, which will likely include their partnership with NBC Sports Network (formerly Versus) as well as more fights from their first show.
