In the main event of UFC 150, Ben Henderson and Frankie Edgar engaged in another five-round war and it was Henderson who came out on top once again, picking up a split decision victory to keep his UFC lightweight title. It was the second straight time the two men had gone to the judges, and the second straight time that Edgar thought he did enough to win (along with a lot of other people), only to come up short. The final scores were two 48-47 cards for Henderson, and one 49-46 card for Edgar.
Henderson was attacking Edgar's legs with success early and won the first round. Edgar knocked Henderson down in the second and clearly took that round. The last three were all tossups. Edgar did a good job slipping punches and working the body, while Henderson was landing the harder shots overall. It appeared to most that Edgar had won, but that's not how it went down.
What was the high point of the fight?
Edgar knocked Henderson down in the second round. That was the hardest strike of the fight.
Where do they go from here?
Henderson will fight Nate Diaz later this year for the title. The bout is likely to take place in December sometime. With Edgar in the rearview, a world of challengers are ready to step up and face the Diaz/Henderson winner. You know, unless these two have nine rematches or something.
Edgar is at a crossroads. Does he stay at lightweight or drop to 145? It seems that the majority of people would like him to drop, but he's still the second best lightweight in the world so it's pretty hard to say it's something he needs to do. If he stays at lightweight, he could fight any number of different guys.
Watch now, later, or never?
Now. The bout was very good and definitely worth 25 minutes of your time, despite what a small minority of fans might tell you.
