UFC 148 Results: Melvin Guillard Takes Decision Over Fabricio Camoes

Melvin Guillard defeated Fabricio Camoes by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Melvin Guillard didn't make any major mistakes, he just stuck to a solid boxing game and pulled off =some good escapes to take a unanimous decision victory over Fabricio Camoes in the lightweight bout at UFC 148. Camoes did get to mount in the first round and threatened with a leglock late, but wasn't able to land enough strikes to secure a round.

The fighters exchanged leg kicks to start the bout. Guillard landed a nice left as Camoes shot in. Camoes used a superman punch to get in on a single. He got it down briefly, but Melvin got straight back up. Melvin stuffed a shot and Camoes pulled guard, but Melvin got right out. Melvin ended up on top anyway a few seconds later. Melvin landed a nice elbow and some punches but got reversed. Camoes transitioned to mount in a scramble and dropped some elbows. Guillard bucked him off and got back to his feet. Camoes got caught throwing a spinning kick and Guillard landed some shots on the ground to close out the round.

Guillard started the second with a jab and a left hook. In fact, that's all he used for the first two minutes, while Camoes landed pretty much nothing. Camoes grazed with a spinning kick. Camoes went for a single leg takedown but they rolled right back onto their feet. The crowd chanted for Camoes, who landed a left hook of his own. Camoes got Melvin down to a seated position with a minute to go. Melvin popped up, ate a spinning elbow, and ended up on Camoes' back. Guillard started unloading on the ground and closed out another round on top.

Camoes landed a front kick early in the final round, and the fighters clashed heads. Guillard landed a few strikes while Camoes mostly just defended. Melvin started to land punches to the body. Camoes dropped for a low single but just ate punches for his troubles. Camoes tripped Guillard with a leg kick, but nothing came of it. Camoes shot in for a single again, got him down, and rolled for a leglock with 15 seconds to go. Guillard held on though.
