In the third bout of the UFC 149 main card, Cheick Kongo took a horribly boring unanimous decision win over Shawn Jordan in their Heavyweight tilt. The two men spent most of the fight clinched against the fence jockeying for position. Kongo was able to control the action there for the most part, and did mix in some occasional strikes. But the crowd was all over the fight and rightfully so. The final scores were 30-28, 30-27, and 30-27, all for Kongo.
Kongo reportedly entered the both with an injured shoulder, so that could explain some of his gameplan. He is now 3-1-1 in his last five, while Jordan falls to 1-1 in the UFC. Jordan was a late replacement for Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
What was the high spot of this fight?
The final bell. Seriously, the bout was terrible and I was happy it was over.
Where do these guys go from here?
Kongo is still the gatekeeper to the stars in the heavyweight division, and won't go much of anywhere. They could go back to the Big Nog fight, but it seems more likely that he'll get thrown in there with another banger next.
Jordan didn't pass the test, and he'll have to work his way back up to relevant fights again. There are plenty of mid-tier UFC heavyweights to match him up with, and he'll likely be a lot more exciting the next time he fights.
Watch it now, later, or never?
Never. Never ever ever ever. A tape of this should be used to punish naughty children, or be used by the military as an interrogation tool. Unless you're having problems sleeping one night, this should never be watched.
