Tim Boetsch defeated Hector Lombard by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
Hector Lombard was expected to take the UFC by storm. Well, he didn't. He was overly patient and lacked aggressiveness, and it cost him dearly as he dropped a split decision to Tim Boetsch in the co-main event of UFC 149. Boetsch wasn't exactly overly aggressive either, but a steady kicking game and a little more volume earned him the W. The bout was pretty bad, and the crowd booed non-stop throughout the fight.
Boetsch landed a couple of kicks and looked for an early takedown. Lombard stuffed it and landed an uppercut. Lombard scooped up Boetsch and got his own takedown. Boetsch got up quick though. Lombard landed two big lefts. Lombard stuffed another Boetsch shot, but wasn't really attacking.
Lombard opened the second with a nice overhand left. Lombard landed a jab and another left. Boetsch continued to attack the legs of Lombard. Lombard was slethargic and missing a lot with single shots. Lombard finally hurt Boetsch with a kick to the body that caused Boetsch to back off. Lombard pounced, but Boetsch turtled up on the ground, then got back up. They struggled in the clinch for the rest of the round.
The fighters traded kicks early in the third. Not much happened for the first two minutes. Lots of feinting, not a lot of striking. Boetsch shot in for a takedown but got stuffed. Lombard went for a trip but missed. Lombard got a takedown late, but Boetsch popped up immediately and landed a knee.
