James Head defeated Brian Ebersole by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
James Head picked up his second straight win at welterweight with a split decision win over Brian Ebersole. Ebersole continually looked for the takedown but Head's defense was on point. Head won most of the exchanges on the feet and the bout probably just should have been a unanimous decision.
Ebersole shot it right away twice in the first but got stuffed. Head landed some strikes against the cage. Head continued to get the best of the standup and was able to stuff all of Ebersole's shots. Ebersole did land one nice shot. Head transitioned for a guillotine, but Ebersole gave the thumbs up and worked from the top. Ebersole threw his cartwheel kick but Head got a takedown.
The second began similar to the first, with stuffed shots. Head wasn't landing as many punches as in the first though. Ebersole worked against the cage a bit. Head landed a nice knee but finally ended up on his back. Head hit a nice butterfly sweep at the end of the round.
Head stuffed a shot and landed a right to start the final stanza. Ebersole responded with a body kick. Head continued to stuff shots and back away from Ebersole. Head spun around to Ebersole's back and took him down, but Ebersole escaped. Head continued to stuff shots until late, when he looked for a sub and Ebersole ended up on top.
