With the news of Josh Neer's new UFC contract fresh off the press, The Ultimate Fighter alum Chris Camozzi becomes the latest UFC fighter to sign a new contract with the organization. He spoke to MMA Weekly about the news:
Chris Camozzi, who just landed on his hometown UFC 150 fight card, also just signed a new four-fight contract with the UFC.
"I am excited to be around a for four more fights. The UFC is the pinnacle of mixed martial arts and I am honored they want me to be with them," Camozzi told MMAWeekly.com.
Camozzi competed on season 11 of TUF, but his stay was short-lived due to injury. He won a grueling three-round sudden victory unanimous decision over Victor O'Donnell to get into the TUF house, but was removed from the competition after sustaining a fractured jaw in the fight.
Nonetheless, the middleweight fought in the season finale, defeating James Hammortree by decision. He was released from the UFC after a submission loss to fellow season 11 TUF competitor Kyle Noke at UFC 127 in Australia. Camozzi edged out Joey Villasenor via split decision on a Shark Fights card, and soon enough the UFC brought him back in October 2011. After losing to French prospect Francis Carmont, he won his next two fights, submitting Dustin Jacoby in January and forcing a third-round doctor stoppage against Nick Catone at UFC on FX 4.
He is scheduled to fight Buddy Roberts at UFC 150 in Denver, CO, as he searches for his 3rd consecutive victory.
