UFC Middleweight Vitor Belfort is injured and out of his UFC 147 headliner against fellow The Ultimate Fighter Brazil coach Wanderlei Silva. The UFC is working to find Silva a new opponent for the June 23 event which will take place in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Ariel Helwani tweeted the news:
Dana said Vitor Belfort broke his hand and is out. They are working on a new opponent for Wandy.
Vitor had surgery today. No word on how it went yet.
The event was originally to take place in a Sao Paulo soccer stadium and feature UFC Middleweight champ Anderson Silva rematching Chael Sonnen. That bout had to be moved to UFC 148 in Las Vegas when the UFC was unable to make the logistics work in Sao Paulo or Rio de Janiero.
Belfort vs. Wanderlei Silva was to be a rematch of their 1998 bout at UFC Brazil when Belfort KO'd Silva in under a minute.
