A TUF veteran will look to rebound from a loss to a TUF legend, Stephan Bonnar. Not exactly exciting stuff. On the other side though, if there is one man that should have been in the UFC a long time ago, it's the Brazilian that is finally making his debut in Vegas later tonight. Visa issues are costly, I guess. Kyle Kingsbury (11-3, 1 NC, 4-2 UFC) meets Glover Teixeira (17-2, 0-0 UFC).
Teixeira is inexplicably ranked at number 22 at light heavyweight in the USA Today/BE Consensus Rankings, while Kingsbury is unranked. Glover had been flying below the radar before a UFC fight actually got booked for him, but that was apparently enough to push him onto the list for some. He'll actually earn the spot with a win, while Kingsbury might get a vote or two with a win over the newcomer I guess. This light heavyweight UFC 146 bout is the second bout of the preliminary card and will be streamed live on Facebook. The Facebook stream begins at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT.
How do these two stack up?
Kingsbury: 30 years old | 6'4" | 79" reach
Teixeira: 32 years old | 6'2" | Unknown reach
What have these two done recently?
Kingsbury: L - Stephan Bonnar (UD) | W - Fabio Maldonado (UD) | W - Ricardo Romero (TKO)
Teixeira: W - Ricco Rodriguez (SUB) | W - Marvin Eastman (KO) | W - Antonio Mendes (SUB)
How did these two get here?
Kyle "Kingsbu" Kingsbury is a former football player that lost two bouts in a row on TUF 8, then dropped a decision to Tom Lawlor on the Finale. He persevered though and rattled off a four-fight winning streak in the organization, including an excellent decision win over Fabio Maldonado. He was defeated by Stephan Bonnar in his last bout though, and has promised to re-invent himself for this bout.
Glover Teixeira has been one of the top talents outside of the UFC for a long time. Visa issues have kept him out of the organization until now. He holds wins over Sokoudjou, Marcio Cruz, and Ricco Rodriguez and is currently on a 15-fight winning streak. The Shooto South American light heavyweight champion has finished 15 out of his 17 victories.
Why should you care?
Glover's a beast and Kingsbury always steps it up against tough competition. This is going to be a war.
