Brendan Schaub has been campaigning for a fight with legend Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in Brazil at UFC 134 in recent days, and apparently that worked out well for him. Nogueira's coaches had talked about being unsure if he'd be 100% for the show, and sent out feelers in regards to a fight with Mirko Cro Cop, but the man who last defeated Filipovic will be squaring off with Big Nog instead. UFC.com has it:
The UFC 134 fight card has added a high-profile heavyweight battle, Dana White confirmed today. The 8-1 Brendan "The Hybrid" Schaub and former Pride and UFC champion Minotauro Nogueria have verbally agreed to the August 27 bout in Rio.
Schaub is coming off a UFC 128 knockout of the night performance against another Pride legend, Mirko Cro Cop. The summer bout will be Nogueira's first return to the Octagon in 18 months after an injury took him out of his planned headlining bout last October.
As mentioned, Nogueira has been on the shelf since a KO loss to current UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez at UFC 110 last February. He has had knee and double hip surgery in the meantime, and is just returning to a full training schedule. Schaub has been on a roll, picking up four wins in a row after being knocked out by Roy Nelson at The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale in late 2009.
