Former Pride stalwart Mark Hunt picked up his first UFC win and the Knock Out of the Night bonus against Chris Tuchscherer at UFC 127.
Hunt battered Tuchscherer on the feet through most of the first round although the wrestler took him down and threatened with a kimura in the latter part of the first frame, doing enough to get the round on all three judges' cards.
In the second hunt landed a devastating uppercut that dropped Tuchscherer for a KO at 1:41 of the second round.
What was the high point of the fight?
While most would say the highlight reel KO was the high point....ok ok, the highlight reel KO and Hunt's nonchalance in walking away from his beaten foe was unquestionably the high point. But Tuchscherer showed real heart in coming back from a horrifically gashed eyelid to get a take down and work furiously from top control to steal the first round.
Where do these guys go from here?
Hunt stays alive in the UFC. Not bad for a guy who hadn't had a win since 2006. Tuchscherer drops to 1-3 in the UFC and might be due for a sojourn in the non-UFC wilderness.
Watch it now, later, or never?
Watch it now and later. This is a very fun fight between two big men who both have their moments in the fight. Not for the squeamish.
