One of the highlighted matchups on the undercard featured a Canadian vs. American jiu-jitsu chess match as Mark Bocek took on Jorge Gurgel protégé. It was Hazelett's return to 155 lbs. but the welcome would not be a warm one as Bocek caught "McLovin" in a fight ending triangle choke in the first round of the contest.
It didn't take long for Bocek to secure the takedown but when the action hit the canvas the real fight began. Hazelett worked off his back as he kept Bocek at bay using the rubber guard before attempting a triangle choke. Bocek defended perfectly and worked through the submission attempt to secure side control. After getting safely to the side Bocek slipped into a full mount and Hazelett realized he was in trouble. From the mount Bocket locked in a triangle choke from the top position before rolling over and pushing Hazelett's neck into his own arm. Hazelett didn't panic as he looked for an escape but ultimately there was no choice but to tap and the fight came to an abrupt end midway through the first round.
In victory Bocek continues to look impressive as he has defeated 4 out of his past 5 opponents with the only defeat coming against one of the division's best in Jim Miller. Bocek used his post fight interview to call out Australian George Sotiropoulos in an effort to put himself in the contender's picture. The loss makes it three in a row for Hazelett and after suffering back to back defeats at welterweight his drop to 155 lbs was supposed to be a fresh start for the Cincinnati based fighter.
