UFC 101 Results: Kurt Pellegrino Defeats Josh Neer by Decision

In the opening bout of the UFC 101 broadcast, Batman defeated the Dentist by unanimous decision.

In the first round, Kurt Pellegrino opened with a dramatic slam but quickly found himself stymied in Josh Neer's guard. Neer threatened armbars, triangle chokes and leg locks as Pellegrino worked to pass guard.

In the 2nd round, both fighters came out striking before Pellegrino shot in for a take down. The second round then quickly became a replay of the first with Batman working to pass guard and Neer threatening submissions from his back. With one minute left, Pellegrino capitalized on a failed kimura attempt to pass to full mount. Quickly taking Neer's back, he worked for a rear naked choke. But time ran out on Batman.

In the final round, Pellegrino only needed 0:30 to put Neer on his back. Neer threatened with an omaplata to no avail. The Philly crowd booed as Pellegrino dropped hammer fists and elbows and avoided submission attempts. With less than 0:45 left, Neer managed to reverse position but it was too little too late, despite battering Pellegrino with brutal elbows and leaving his opponent bloody.

Josh Neer came in off an impressive win over The Ultimate Fighter Season 6 winner Mac Danzig at UFC Fight Night 17 in February.

Pellegrino came into the fight off a unanimous decision win over Thiago Tavares at UFC 88, and a submission victory over Rob Emerson at UFC Fight Night 17.
