Rankings compiled by Richard Wade.

It was just announced that #1 Fedor Emelianenko will face #9 Brett Rogers this fall for Strikeforce. Not the dream Fedor vs Lesnar match we were all hoping for, but probably as good as we're going to get.

The UFC has deemed that #2 Brock Lesnar will have to satisfy himself with #7 Shane Carwin at UFC 106.

Either of those fights could go against the favorite, but in all likelihood they won't.

Coming up this weekend at UFC 102, we've got #4 Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs #5 Randy Couture with the winner likely in line for a title shot.

At UFC 103 we'll see #14 Junior dos Santos against #15 Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic. The winner of that bout will also be propelled into title contention, but I'll be surprised if they get an immediate title shot.

#11 Cain Velasquez had been rumored to be getting a title elimination match against Carwin at UFC 104, but will instead face #19 Ben Rothwell. This fits the UFC's recent style of putting their top contenders on parallel tracks.

Based on the premise that all MMA rankings are subjective but that it’s still useful and informative to know who the online MMA community as a whole ranks as the best fighters in MMA, we collect and average the rankings of the top MMA websites to produce our consensus rankings. Show more "

We compile the top MMA rankings from each of our sources and award 25 points for a first place ranking, 16 for a 10th place ranking, 1 for a 25th place ranking. A formula is used to "normalize" the data so all fighters are awarded points from those lists that do not include a full 25 fighters. This formula ensures that each ranking site awards the same number of total points regardless of how many fighters they choose to rank. Each fighter’s total is divided by the number of possible points to determine their standing in the Consensus Rankings.
