BJ Penn remains untested: BJ Penn looked unstoppable today, Joe Stevenson never had a chance. However, even though BJ looks great, we still haven't seen his cardio tested in a meaningful way since dropping to 155. If I had to bet today on Sherk/Penn, I'd put the money on Penn, but he's actually going to have to work hard for that win.
Marcus Davis is a contender: The man is finally starting to get some credit, and I expect his next opponent will be a big jump up in competition. The fight tonight was very easy for him, and honestly, with news of Akihiro Gono dropping out of UFC 82, I'd love to see Marcus Davis step in there and fight Jon Fitch.
Gabriel Gonzaga was overhyped: I picked Gonzaga, but had a feeling we'd see an upset. It's pretty obvious now that his win over Cro Cop was more about Cro Cop's decline than the rise of a new superstar. He was thoroughly destroyed by Randy, and frankly went out in sad fashion today.
Heavyweight and Middleweight malaise: This was not a good day for either division. Grove and Gonzaga looked awful, Werdum didn't look that great in victory, and Rivera will never be a contender at Middleweight.
