The UFC Vegas 27 main event saw Rob Font win a one-sided unanimous decision against former champion Cody Garbrandt. The first two rounds of the fight mostly took place on the feet, with Garbrandt landing the occasional takedown but Font doing a good job of reversing position and ending up on top.
Once the fight hit the third round, Font was finding his rhythm and started to pick Garbrandt apart. In the final round, Gabrandt still couldn’t deal with the jab of Font as the fight came to an end.
Check out Nate Wilcox’s play-by-play of the fifth round:
Garbrandt coming forward. Landing. He’s landing quite a bit. Font answers. Garbrandt beginning to back up now. There’s Font’s jab. Garbrandt lands a left. Font lands a knee. Garbrandt lands an overhand right. Font with a combo. They trade jabs. Font lands an uppercut that backs him up. Font catches a kick. Throws Cody back. Font keeps jabbing. Garbrandt standing his ground. Jab. Jab. Garbrandt answers with a hard shot. Font grabs a leg and drops Garbrandt with a punch. Garbrandt back up. Two jabs and a hard right from Font. Again. Third time. Drop of blood on the camera. Jab. Jab. Right. Rinse, repeat. Garbrandt goes for a spinning back fist. Font ducks under it and pulls Garbrandt down on top of him. Another round for Font on my card. 4-1.
Official result: Rob Font def. Cody Garbrandt by unanimous decision (48-47, 50-45, 50-45)
