UFC Hall of Famer Stephan Bonnar has posted a video showing him storming out of his gym, claiming he had been booted for not wearing a mask. The Ultimate Fighter season one finalist dates the video as his ‘birthday’, meaning the incident likely took place on April 4.

You can check out the incident below, which was shared on twitter by @daenewworld_2.

In the video, Bonnar says the following:

“I’ve been coming to this gym 14 years, getting kicked out on my birthday because one of these sheep were complaining that my mask was dropping. Well guess what sheep, I got a medical exemption; I have asthma. I’m doing you a favour by even playing pretend. Masks don’t do anything. Wake up you sheep! Tattletales! Cowards”

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America states that most asthmatics should not experience issues while wearing a mask to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Their website states the following:

“For people with very mild asthma or well-controlled asthma, it’s probably not going to be an issue,” said Dr. David Stukus, member of the Medical Scientific Council for the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA). “For people who have very severe disease and have frequent exacerbations, ER visits, hospitalizations, require lots of medications and frequent symptoms, it might cause more issues for those folks.”

Asthma Canada has a similar advisory on their website:

The vast majority of people with asthma can wear a non-medical mask safely and are recommended to do so. If you are unable to wear a non-medical mask without experiencing breathing issues, do not wear a mask. Instead, make sure you are practicing physical distancing by maintaining a 2-metre distance.

Mask wearing to stop the spread of COVID-19, a virus that has killed more than half a million Americans, is advised by the Center for Disease Control, the World Health Organization and many more scientific and medical institutions.

Bonnar last fought in 2014, when he lost a split decision to fellow anti-masker Tito Ortiz at Bellator 2014. Prior to this he had a 15-fight career with the UFC between 2005 and 2012.

Last month it was reported that Bonnar was suing an alkaline water producer after he was hospitalized with liver failure, which he says is a result of drinking that product.
