UFC Vegas 20 results: Ciryl Gane takes lackluster decision over Jairzinho Rozenstruik

Ciryl Gane completely neutralized Jairzinho Rozenstruik to win a unanimous decision in the UFC Vegas 20 main event.

The top of the UFC Vegas 20 billing saw a bit of a lackluster matchup when the #7 ranked heavyweight, Ciryl Gane, took a unanimous decision over the #4 ranked, Jairzinho Rozenstruik. A lot of starring went on, without a lot of strikes coming from either side. Gane was able to dictate the pace, range, and was the one who was mixing in some grappling exchanges. It was quite the technical performance from Gane, but was free of any real wow moments. Nonetheless, Gane moves to a flawless 8-0 and has just beat a top-5 ranked heavyweight.

Gane was active right away, giving a lot of different looks and throwing feints with a few jabs. Rozenstruik was a lot more stationary, looking to load up on big punches. Not a ton of volume was being thrown out on either side. When Rozenstruik did go, it was in short yet ferocious bursts. Gane eventually shot in for the takedown and pressed his foe against the fence. When he did get Rozenstruik down, time expired before he could do anything.

The second round started with a lot of feints on both sides. Gane began pumping his jab and throwing his kicks, while Rozenstruik just sat back and waited. After a bunch of starring at one another, Gane shifted gears and went for the takedown. Rozenstruik defended the shot but his back was stuck to the fence. Gane tried to jump a hook-less RNC, giving Rozenstruik the space he needed to get into open space.

The same sort of pedestrian pace melted into the third frame. The fighters started to open up with punches, with both men landing, but then the match went right back to a bunch of feints. Gane received a stern warning from the referee about extended fingers just before the start of the fourth frame. Gane continued to dictate the pace and the range. He wasn’t exactly throwing a lot, or landing for that matter, but Rozenstruik was literally waiting. Then, an accidental knee to the cup paused the bout. Rozenstruik just wouldn’t pull the trigger.
