According to MMA Junkie the UFC are planning a clash of top featherweights to headline their first event of 2022. That outlet states that Calvin Kattar vs. Giga Chikadze is being planned for January 15. A location for that event is yet to be announced.
If Kattar does fight on January 15, that will be one day shy of the year anniversary of his previous fight; a main event opposite Max Holloway at UFC on ABC.
Kattar badly lost that fight by unanimous decision. In that fight Holloway set UFC records for most significant strikes landed in a fight (445), most distance strikes landed in a fight (439) and highest significant strike differential in a fight (312).
Prior to that loss Kattar had notched wins over Dan Ige and Jeremy Stephens. He also holds UFC wins over Ricardo Lamas, Chris Fishgold, Shane Burgos and Andre Fili. His only other losses in the UFC were to Zabit Magomedsharipov and Renato Moicano.
Chikadze is on a 9-fight winning streak and is undefeated in the UFC. In August he finished Edson Barboza by TKO.
Chikadze’s run of UFC victories includes TKOs of Cub Swanson and Jamey Simmons and decisions over Omar Morales, Irwin Rivera, Jamall Emmers and Brandon Davis.
The UFC’s January 15 Fight Night card is also scheduled to feature Brandon Royval vs. Rogerio Bontorin, Jasmine Jasudavicius vs. Kay Hansen and Brian Kelleher vs. Saidyokub Kakhramanov.
